The Differences between Counseling and Psychotherapy

Often people think that counseling and psychotherapy are one and the same. Although counseling may be utilized in psychotherapy, there are differences in the practices. In psychotherapy, clients and therapists work to understand the root causes of problems causing mental and emotional distress. Counseling services provided at NorthStar Wellness are short-term in nature. You will work with a counselor to determine one or two specific goals to focus on and action steps in order to achieve these goals. All sessions are solution focused and goal oriented.
