Reiki is a Japanese modality of energy balancing that promotes relaxation, stress relief and healing. Trained Reiki practitioners perform the practice by either laying hands on or just above a person's body in order to help the person's energy flow appropriately.
Reiki is translated into rei, "God's wisdom" or "Higher power," and ki, "life force energy." Reiki is thought of as being "spiritually guided life force energy," according to www.reiki.org. Reiki practitioners connect with energy and channel it through their hands into the person's body or energy field.
A Reiki session is, if nothing else, relaxing. You will lie on a massage table, fully clothed facing upright. You can close your eyes and let your practitioner know if you would prefer a hands-on or hands-off session. Typically a practitioner will play some music during your session.
Some practitioners may share a Reiki experience with you, where you will be guided into a meditation and receive the Reiki energy directly. These experiences typically last around 20 minutes and afterwards the practitioner can begin the hands-on portion of the session.
There are many different benefits associated with receiving Reiki. These benefits include:
Reiki is completely safe, it can do no harm. Sometimes recipients express feeling mild discomfort in certain parts of their body during session, which could be a result of energy balancing. This will typically subside before the session is over. Reiki will always go where it is needed and serve your highest good.
Reiki should be considered a complimentary treatment and is not a replacement for medical care from trained professionals. It is absolutely advised that you continue working with your healthcare providers while receiving Reiki sessions.
